About the club.

We are the Central New York Chapter of The Winnebago International Travelers Club (WIT). Our goal is to unite owners of Winnebago products, learn more about our motor homes, develop long lasting friendships and have fun.  We range in age from young to not so young.  We enjoy meeting new members, seeing new places and having fun along the way.

Our membership is represented by people from all walks of life and is open to anyone owning a Winnebago product and is a member of The Winnebago International Travelers Club.

Ononbago Winnies - The Beginning

On June 8,9 and l0th, 1973 Clayton Theissen of Lakeland Garage, Syracuse sponsored a three-day campout at Oneida Pines Campground North Bay New York.  32 units attended this campout with the focus on forming a local chapter of W.I.T. Of the 32 units attending 17 of these signed up for membership.

Friday evening of the campout Mr. Bob Howard, Northeast Regional Director of WIT spoke briefly about club activities and showed slides of the "1973 WIT. Mardi Gras Rally".  On Saturday afternoon Bob, assisted by his wife Betty, gave all the details of starting a club and it's functions.  Temporary officers were elected and the "Ononbago Winnies" were on their way.  Dues and initiation fees were set and the chapter colors of green, gold, beige and white were chosen.  Eligibility for membership will cover the Central New York area.

Saturday night the ladies put on a more than excellent potluck dinner.  This was followed by a Sunday morning "pancake breakfast" baked by club sponsor Clayt and several of his Lakeland co-workers.  Throughout the weekend both the youths and adults enjoyed various sports activities.

The next meeting was scheduled for July 27, 28, and 29th at Oneida Pines campground, Mulholland Road, North Bay, NY.  Permanent officers will be elected at this meeting. Suggestions for the Chapter Symbol will also be submitted.  The rest is history.
